Weimaraner: Dog That Sun Tans

Weimaraner: Dog That Sun Tans

Weimaraners are known for their light-taupe colored  coats and fair skin.  But did you know that the sun actually causes the weimaraner to get a tan?!  Weimaraners coat will get darker brown in the sun and some Weim’s also develop a tiger stripe – or dark line down the middle of their back.  The brown fur and tiger stripe are more common in the summer and fade in seasons with less natural sunlight.  These unique seasonal changes in the Weimaraner’s coat are often referred to as a “sun tan”.  The Weimaraner’s one of only a few breeds of dog that sun tans.
