Our story: An Aging Dog Made Us Want Longevity for All Family Dogs

Titan passed away in the summer of 2014 as a well-loved, well-lived old Weimaraner dog. He left us devastated and empty for a time. But he taught us a lot about caring for an aging dog and young family. We carry with us the idea of assessing how our implementations of diets, medications, and holistic health care benefit our family dogs. Today, we give owners tools to guide their actions and treatment to best care for the family dog. Our vision is to increase longevity of all dogs, which means more time with family and in their own best health, regardless of age or chronic illness.

Life of a Young Family And Aging Dog

I had a young family at the same time that our aging dog’s health was declining. There is such a heaviness that engulfs the heart knowing a dog’s time is coming, but yet - not knowing when or how. My spouse and I struggled to find ways to improve our dog’s longevity. Our daughter loved the family dog and we wanted him around as long as reasonable. None of us could image life without him.

Striving For Best Health in Old Dogs

Supporting Titan on his aging dog journey was a roller-coaster of emotions for us, and I know I’m not alone in that sense. Time went on 2010-2012, we were trying the best diets, medications, exercise regimes, hydrotherapy and spa treatments we could afford. But the one thing that stood out was – not being able to measure how Titan was actually doing? Did he actually want these things? Or did we want these things for him? Was his pain being well controlled, or were we just believing the prescription medication worked? We found ourselves wondering how do we know best what a dog wants and needs?

Now owners could monitor benefits of diet, exercise, sleep and play specific to their dog’s breed! You can even modify your dog’s profile to target specific health conditions such as diabetes, anxiety, allergies, and mental aging. FitBark gives you a chance to build community for support, or work solo. You get notifications of success or alerts to your phone and inbox!

When you purchase your FitBark Starter Kit through Best Family Dogs Canine Health and Fitness Shop you not only get a brand new quality device direct from manufacturer for you and your dog’s health journey – we will also donate 13% of each sale to our local SPCA to provide care and basic needs to rescue dogs.

Supporting Rescue Dogs in Our Own Community

In December 2023, Best Family Dogs was able to make a donation to our local SPCA to help support the rescue dogs in our own community. The donation helps provide food, comfort and veterinarian care to dogs waiting for adoption. Thank you for your support! We believe that all dogs deserve longevity and chance to live their best life!
