So you were giving your dog a belly rub the other day and you noticed a flat belly. That seems awfully sooth to ours as you think about your own belly button, you start to wonder? Does my dog have one?

Why do we have belly buttons?

All mammals have belly buttons because it is the scar left over from the umbilical cord or placenta that nurtured us inutero.

Not all Mammals are Born Naturally

Egg laying mammals WILL NOT have a belly button because they were not nurtured through a placenta. It is the detaching of the placenta that forms a wound which heals into a belly button. Animals would not have a placenta scar if they hatched from eggs. Can you name 2 mammals that lay eggs?
