I have just been diagnosed with diabetes. My paw-parents took me to the veterinarian after they noticed I was drinking a lot more and had some new urinary incontinence in the house.
Initially, they thought I was just regressing in my potty-training. Just going through a phase. But I was really hungry all the time too. At first, they wouldn’t feed me more than the usual and I started losing weight – fast! Even when they did try to provide extra treats and meals my appetite was ravenous but my weight continued to decline. I was so thirsty all the time. By the time I went to the doggy doctor, I was emaciated, obviously malnourished and dehydrated and I really had a constant urgency to pee! I was feeling really terrible.
Once at the veterinarian we really got answers into what was going on with my health. My paw-parents are adjusting to my new normal. Since being diagnosed with diabetes, there is lots to do. They have to check my blood sugar 2-3 times a day to make sure my diet and exercise are perfectly balanced. They also use insulin shots (yes, I sometimes need injections which really sucks!) to keep my blood sugar levels down when they get too high. All this was a lot for my paw-parents to take on. They were trying to do the best for me, but also trying to understand all my new medical complexities.
Our veterinarian mentioned that diet and exercise would be important for me to live my best life. He wanted my paw-parents to keep track of my intake (food, water) and exercise, he suggested they keep a journal! My parents both use smart phones and love the ease of technology. They wanted something that was more automatic – would log the results for them and would provide easily sharable data because our friends and family are all concerned about improving my health.
Dog Health Monitor Ease of Technology to Share Results
That was when they discovered this wonderful worldwide health monitor! They bought it for me as a gift to help me live healthy with my diabetes. I love the new bone-shaped decal on my collar. My paw-parents set me up with my own social media account on the FREE app. Now I get friend requests from other dogs my age, and even my breed, that are also living with dog diabetes. It helps me feel supported through my new diabetic health regime, and I can tell my paw-parents find reassurance from knowing others who share our struggles and also celebrate our accomplishments.
My paw-parents can check and compare my progress on a daily basis. My activity and calories are measured and scored so they can monitor how well I am doing staying healthy. It even measures my sleep, because if I have a bad night, it can also throw off my blood sugar levels!

How Dog Health Monitoring Benefits Us and Our Owner’s Health
Summary
I’m a golden retriever who was recently diagnosed with canine diabetes. It is a challenge for my family to adjust and care for me, because they didn’t expect me to get sick. We are slowly coming to terms with this life-changing diagnosis. My paw-parents are really supportive and very smart! When the veterinarian told them to “write a journal”, my paw-parents knew they wanted more.
They wanted a tool that would help them automatically calculate my most important parameters, calories, miles/kilometers, steps, and sleep. This health monitor makes medical monitoring easy for my paw-parents to understand and eases communication with professionals involved in my care plan. I have now connected with many dogs locally and globally who are the same age or breed as myself. My paw-parents have connected with my friends owners also, now we celebrate our accomplishments together! My results are easily sharable with our friends and family, which is great because I feel so well supported!
