Dogs Were Sacred to Native Americans

Dogs arrived with nomadic tribes from Asia across the Bering Strait to North America about 15, 000 years ago.  Dogs were native American’s first domesticated animal, introduced to North America even thousands of years earlier than the European Horse. Guarded by females in the tribe, dogs were used to pull sleds, help hunt, used as a food source and sacrificed in rituals as they were seen as sacred and used as spirit offerings.
