Weimaraner Fur: Long or Short?

Weimaraners can be long haired or short haired. If you want a how dog, and are looking to comply with breed standards are just want less grooming responsibility – short haired Weim is the way to go. Short haired Weim’s are more common, and enhance the appearance of this lean, athletic dog.

Long-haired Weimaraners are more commonly associated with pet-stock variety. They require more grooming responsibility, brushing, bathing and trimming to keep their fur and coat healthy. The longer hair hides their athletic build, but it is the same speedy dog under it all!

Weimaraner’s Sensitive Skin

Weimaraners are very fair-skinned dogs. They have pink pads on their feet and very pale skin. They are very prone to skin sensitivity and allergies both environmental and ingestible allergens. As some of these dog’s allergies level off and are manageable with diet and grooming modifications, other Weimaraners and owners may struggle for years with skin rash and digestive flare-ups.
