Weimaraner: How Fast Do They Run?

Weimaraner: How Fast Do They Run?

Weimaraners Run Fast

Weimaraners run fast!  The Weimaraner breed can reach speeds of up to 35 + MPH or 56+ KM/H. This is much faster than humans, even athletes! Since Weimaraners were originally bred to hunt deer and wolves, not only are they fast, but they have stamina. This means they can pace themselves to spend hours hunting. Unlike some faster breeds, such as Whippets- known for their speed, the whippet can reach 40+mph or 64KM/H. Unlike the Weimararner, Whippets were bred to race and are best suited for short but fast bursts of energy in comparison.

Since Weimaraners run fast, your Weimaraner NEEDS HOURS of outside time and runs everyday. Weimaraner is not an apartment dog. This breed does best in a single family home with lots of lawn and older children who can keep them entertained with high-energy and challenging activities. The breed also would do best in rural settings on farms with plenty of outdoor time during the day. However, this breed wants to be close to their family and needs indoor time at night.

Getting a Weimaraner for The Wrong Reasons

Do not get a Weimaraner for the wrong reasons. This breed has been made very popular in the past due to appearing in movies and TV shows, being the subject in popular art, and their blue-eyed, taupe coat, and fit appearance appeals to people who highly value the prestige of owning rare breeds.

When you can not provide adequate daily exercise for your Weimaraner, daily training and enough mental stimulation, you will break the dog’s character. Weimaraner is not a good breed choice for first-time dog owners. Many Weimaraners end up brought to shelters because their owners underestimated their needs. An under-exercised, under-stimulated Weimaraner can become destructive and aggressive.

The Weimaraner is not a weekend dog. Going for a jog on the weekend and leaving the Weimaraner at home alone all week while you go to work, is not enough for this breed. These dogs are large and fast and can destroy furniture well. Make sure your energy and your family’s energy and lifestyle fit this breed. Choose the Weimaraner if you love sports and want to keep playing soccer, cross-country running, or jogging, this is a great dog for you!  The best Weimaraner owners are committed to dog training throughout their life. Weimaraner’s enjoy advanced agility and more challenging training exercises. They have extremely great sense of smell and enjoy advanced tracking activities on a regular basis.

Weimaraner’s Speed and Sense of Smell

Give your Weimaraner a great home by encouraging their skills and valuing their intellect.  Remember Weimaraners run fast – so give them an outlet and create games to help them burn off all that energy!
